How the Bear got his Roar (my own just-so story)

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a little bear cub. He wasn’t happy, because he couldn’t talk in a deep voice like his daddy and big brother.  Every time he tried, all that would come out was a squeaking little voice.  So, the little bear got pretty discouraged. He just couldn’t wait for so long to get a deep voice.  Then, he got a great idea!  He would ask his brother to teach him how to talk in a deep voice!

The little bear cub waddled over to his brother and said “big brother, could you teach me how to talk in a deep voice?”. His big brother started to laugh, and said: “little brother, I can’t teach you how to talk in a deep voice, you’ll have to wait until you get older, and then you’ll get it.”  The little bear was very disappointed, but he decided to go practice for a while.  He started yelling in his little baby voice trying to make it deeper.  He was going to try to yell in a deep voice, and then maybe he could talk in a deep voice.  He yelled ’till bedtime, but his voice was still little and squeaky, and by this time really scratchy.

They next day, the bear cub went out and practiced again.  All that he seemed to be accomplishing, was a sore throat from yelling so much, so he went to talk to his daddy. “Daddy,” he said, “I don’t have a deep voice, could you teach me how to have one?”  “Son,” the little bear’s daddy said, “this is how you do it.”  “Tip your chin down, open your mouth, and try to talk.”   The cub did that, and a deep sound came out, but he still couldn’t seem to talk with a deep voice.  So, the little bear had to be content with his little squeaky voice.  Then he got an idea. Maybe he could yell in the deep voice!  He tried, and he could do it! He could yell in a deep voice!  It sounded like a grown-up bear that was mad.  He kept yelling, and pretty soon, he heard his mom calling him.  He ran to her, roaring the whole way.  When he got to her, she said, “there is a mad bear running around, so I wanted you to be with me.”  The little bear laughed and said, “that was me, see: ROOOOAAAAAARRR!”  His mom called the little bear’s daddy, and the little bear roared for him too.

So, from that day on, the little bear roared and roared. He taught his kids how to, and they taught their kids, and they taught their kids, all the way down to the bears that live right now.  And, they still roar to this day, because of the little bear that wanted a deep voice.
